Hip-hop stars EarthGang to headline Spring Concert Series “Detonation” show
Drawing comparisons to Outkast, the Pharcyde, and Dungeon Family, EarthGang mixes southern hip-hop with funk and soul to deliver a sound of its own on past album releases, “Shallow Graves for Toys,” “Strays with Rabies,” and its soon-to-be-released effort, “Mirrorland,” which the Consequence of Sound has deemed one of the 10 Most Anticipated Hip-Hop Albums of 2019.
Detonation rounds out HU’s first Spring Concert Series season featuring up-and-coming artists like The Glorious Sons and The Record Company, along with established musicians such as Joan Osborne and Kurt Vile.
Singer and Harrisburg-native Ashton Dylan will perform during Detonation, as will Jason “Supa Dupa” Sultan, a self-taught cinematographer, producer, and hip-hop artist based in Harrisburg. Supa Dupa Sultan, who owns Harrisburg’s Professional Studios, has produced hip-hop stars like the late Little Snupe, and also supports up-and-coming Harrisburg hip-hop artists.
Detonation is a show entirely produced by HU students. Concert Series Director Frank Schofield guided students as they chose the concert venue and lineup and tackled ticketing and other show logistics.
“I am really proud of how our students pulled this concert together. And it’s a show that will make a splash in the market,” Schofield said. “EarthGang is an international act. And with HU Students bringing them in, it provides them with hands-on experience, while bringing the hottest hip-hop and R&B acts to Harrisburg.”
